Cut and fill Calculations​

Cut and fill is the process of balancing earthwork on a site by determining how much material must be removed (cut) and how much must be added (fill) to reach a target grade.

What’s Actually Being Calculated

At its core, cut and fill is a volume comparison between two surfaces:

The existing ground surface (captured from aerial mapping)

The proposed surface (design grade, pad elevation, or finished surface)

By comparing these two surfaces across millions of measured points, we can determine exactly where material needs to be removed and where it needs to be added. Instead of working off sparse survey points, the entire site is modeled as a continuous surface. This reduces guesswork and gives a more accurate view of the terrain, especially on uneven or sloped ground.


Utility and Feature Mapping
